Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard, Maine’s Mount Desert Island and Bailey Island, Rhode Island’s Block Island, and Maine’s Mount Desert Island were all included in the publication’s list of the 30 most magical island getaways in the United States.
Every island should be on your “bucket list,” according to Country Living.
About 30 miles off the coast of Cape Cod, the article described Nantucket as a “sweet spit of land” and suggested tourists visit the White Elephant Hotel, Brant Point Grill, and Jetties Beach.
If you’d rather be on the water than in it, sailing lessons and boat rentals are offered, according to Country Living. The area’s warm, calm water is ideal for swimming.
The Kennedys and Oprah have all taken vacations to Martha’s Vineyard, the magazine noted, adding that “but the fact is, anyone can relax and rejuvenate on this island off the coast of Cape Cod.”
The best activities, including visiting the expansive beaches, hiking the miles of trail, and gallery hopping, are free or almost free on Martha’s Vineyard, according to the article.
Country Living noted the “unforgettable sunset” at Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park and said they were “absolutely over the moon” for the oh-so-New England town of Bar Harbor when referring to Maine’s Mount Dessert Island.
About 15 miles south of Brunswick is Bailey Island, which is described in the publication as having “fantastic views, whether you set out to Mackerel Cove, the Bronze Fisherman’s Statue at the island’s southern tip, or just watch one of the many fishing and lobstering boats drift out to sea.”
Finally, Block Island in Rhode Island was described as having “few American islands do drama like Block Island with its clay cliffs that plunge into craggy rocks far below” by Country Living.
