In light of Elon Musk’s withdrawal from the Twitter agreement, the social media network is putting together a legal team in an effort to persuade him to complete the $44 billion acquisition. Instead of using words to counter the threat, the self-described edgelord instead used Chuck Norris memes.
From the moment Musk put his takeover of Twitter on hold in May as his team worked to confirm rumors that fake accounts made up less than 5% of the site’s user base, the takeover appeared to be in doubt.
Musk subsequently issued a warning, claiming that Twitter’s alleged refusal to provide precise information regarding spam/fake accounts constituted a material breach of the agreement, entitling him to terminate the agreement without having to pay the $1 billion termination fee. On Friday, that possibility appeared more likely than ever, and Musk ultimately withdrew his offer over the weekend.
The richest man in the world has posted a few memes but hasn’t tweeted about the deal falling through. The first image depicts him giggling at the events that have occurred throughout the acquisition attempt: Twitter’s refusal to sell, its failure to disclose the bot information, and the impending legal action. Another meme simply featured Chuck Norris playing chess and included the phrase “Chuckmate,” which was undoubtedly another allusion to the Twitter saga. This meme quickly became a popular one on the internet.
According to Bloomberg, Twitter is getting ready to sue Musk in an effort to seal the deal in a legal fight between two powerhouse firms. In the meantime, the recent turbulent few months are having an impact on the share price of Twitter. In pre-market trading, it dropped as low as $34.17, which could have reduced the company’s market value by about $2 billion. That is considerably lower than Musk’s April offer of $54.20 per share.
