U.S. Capitol follows Ellipsis. It was always the intention for Trump to claim to the crowd that he was railing just outside the White House, as the January 6 investigation made clear today. It was always intended for him to inform them suddenly that they should leave the rally location and head to the congress on foot. To count the electoral votes, congress was meeting across town at the U.S. Capitol. It was going to be a surprise because that information was not included in the rally application and that it was not something that was discussed in the upper echelons in any way.
People like Mike Lindell, the “my pillow guy,” were informed that these were the president’s top-secret plans, according to the rally organizers. But no one informed the actual government. They did so because they anticipated that if those agencies got wind of it, they would try to put a stop to it. Therefore, this was a secret plot between the president and those he was using to rally the troops in Washington. One that had to remain a closely-kept secret from the government because, of course, the plan involved the actual overthrow of the government.
Trump didn’t just decide to order the crowd to march to the Capitol. Trump always intended to organize an assault on the Capitol by his supporters. The purpose of the rally was to organize his supporters in Washington to prevent Joe Biden from being certified as the winner of the election.
It was all planned, and Maddow’s arguments make it crystal clear that Trump should be charged with sedition. The goal of his rally was to raise an army to use in an attack on the Capitol.
