In a new advertisement, Republican House candidate Jerone Davison of Arizona says he needs an AR-15 to protect himself in case he is attacked by Democrats wearing Klan hoods.
The ad:
You might need that semi-automatic rifle, according to Davison, if it’s the only thing standing between your family and a group of irate Democrats wearing Klan hoods.
Davison needs to be informed that the Klan members coming for his family won’t be Democrats but rather white people who most likely supported Donald Trump.
Because Fox News and other conservative media outlets have spent years trying to persuade their audience that Democrats are the real racists, Davison was able to release this advertisement without receiving universal derision.
They consistently cite as “evidence” the fact that white Democrats in the South were segregationists. The rest of history—when those voters switched to the Republican Party after LBJ signed the Civil Rights Act and Richard Nixon courted them with racism in 1968—is always ignored by Fox and other conservative media.
Racists and white supremacists have sided with the right for many years.
An African-American House candidate can run an ad that is so thoroughly distorted and still receive praise and approval from Republicans because the right has so thoroughly warped and rewritten history.
