I send my best wishes to the government and people of Algeria on the anniversary of their independence on July 5 on behalf of the United States of America.
Our connections date back to the Treaty of Peace and Amity in 1795. Since that time, strong and expanding economic, educational, and cultural ties have been established between Americans and Algerians. I went to Algeria in March to talk about how we can continue to strengthen these ties with President Tebboune and Foreign Minister Lamamra. In order to further our common economic and security interests, the United States is grateful for its recent role as the Country of Honor at the Algiers International Fair.
