Rep. Adam Kinzinger was questioned by ABC’s George Stephanopoulos about the topic of this week’s committee hearing, which will air live on January 6, as well as whether or not we can expect to learn anything new.
While acknowledging that this hearing will be focused on Donald Trump and what he did from “the moment the insurrection started until he finally put out the tweet that said we shouldn’t do anything like this,” Kinzinger said, “Of course, we’ll save the new information for that hearing.”
Keep in mind that in the middle of that tweet, Vice President Pence was essentially told that this is what happens when you steal an election and that he deserved it, according to Kinzinger. Remember that there was a tweet in the middle of that saying, in essence, that Vice President Pence deserved this because he stole the election.
According to Kinzinger, the committee wants to “demonstrate to the American people what the president was doing at the time. The rest of the nation was aware of the uprising. It is obvious that the president had to be aware of the uprising. Where was he then? What did he have on?”
Kinzinger then reprimanded Trump for his behavior that day. “It strikes at the core of what I believe to be a leader’s oath. You have an oath to uphold the US Constitution; you cannot pick and choose which clauses or which branches of government to support, and you certainly cannot be jubilant while doing so.”
According to TV Guide’s reporting:
The upcoming hearings will be broadcast live on all major broadcast and cable news networks, with the exception of Fox News, which, according to a press release, “will cover the hearings as news warrants,” while otherwise maintaining its regular programming schedule.
