The Mojang Studios sandbox video game Minecraft has successfully updated its user policies to provide more guidance on the quickly advancing non-fungible token (NFT) technologies that have recently swept the video gaming industry.

In a press release dated July 20, Minecraft acknowledged that its user policies would be updated to provide clearer instructions on the new blockchain technologies. Following some feedback from community members regarding its position on NFTs, the quick response appears.

Minecraft has made it clear that it won’t permit integration with blockchain or non-fungible tokens (NFTs). The gaming platform mentioned NFT as a blockchain-based digital asset that is frequently bought with cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin (BTC).

NFTs are digital artworks that give digital art a state of ownership, according to Minecraft, but they are also linked to speculation, where influencers pump and dump prices to make money.

The NFTs User Agreement for Minecraft

In an effort to maintain the community feel of the game, Minecraft has updated its user policies to grant all players access to the same functionality. NFT integrations, according to Minecraft, can create models of scarcity and exclusion that are at odds with the company’s principles.

The recently updated policies forbid players of Minecraft from incorporating blockchain technology into the game’s server applications or its in-game items like worlds, skins, and personas.

Minecraft mentioned that some businesses had introduced NFT implementations for world files and skin packs, such as collectible NFTs for the game. All of these NFT integrations, according to Minecraft, produce digital ownership based on scarcity and exclusion, which is at odds with the game’s value of creative inclusion.

Additionally, Minecraft argued that the speculative pricing and investment surrounding NFTs divert players’ attention from gaming to profiteering, resulting in inconsistent long-term success and joy for users.

According to Minecraft, many third-party NFTs may not be trustworthy, and players who purchase them risk suffering significant losses. However, Minecraft understood the inherent worth of a marketplace where values are acknowledged.

In the interim, Minecraft has made it impossible for players to create NFTs assets linked to in-game content, such as worlds, skins, and personal items, by integrating blockchain technologies inside its server applications.
