Ope George, the special adviser to the governor of Lagos State on public-private partnerships (PPP), recently revealed that by utilizing the PPP financing model, the state government has made significant progress in providing residents of the state with quality, affordable housing.
According to a statement made by the Office of Public Private Partnerships, PPP agreements have made it possible for the state government to provide hundreds of residents with high-quality, affordable housing units, in keeping with the administration’s commitment to closing the housing gap.
The Housing Estate Development at Igbogbo, Ikorodu, constructed on 8.8 hectares of land by the Lagos State Government and Messrs. M-Bridge Limited, is one of the PPP projects currently underway in the state, according to George. He claimed that a number of mass housing projects were already completed, were in the works, or had been proposed using the PPP model in various parts of Lagos.
The 20-unit luxury residential apartment that will be constructed in collaboration with Messrs. Westerfield Expert Construction Limited and the Lagos State Government is another significant PPP project in the state. According to George, this will be situated in Abuja on a plot of land owned by the Lagos State Liaison Office.
He claimed that the Lagos State Government was working with Messrs. Brooke Assets and Resources Limited to turn 20 hectares of land in Imota, Ikorodu, into a miniature city with 3,546 units of one- and two-bedroom apartments.
The Special Adviser mentioned that the state government was currently constructing similar multi-unit housing at Ilubirin, Abraham Adesanya, Ajah, and GRA, Ikeja. The GRA, Ikeja project has received approval to erect more than 80 apartment units on 6,2894 square meters inside the former secretariat building for Lagos State in Ikeja.
Since the start of Governor Babajide Sanwo-administration, Olu’s the Lagos State Government has launched no fewer than 15 housing projects and delivered 3,526 housing units all over the state, according to George.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to continuously provide infrastructure, particularly affordable and reasonably priced houses to the good people of Lagos State, by utilizing the PPP model, as he appealed for more support from the locals.
At Bayview Estate in Ikate Elegushi, Lateef Jakande Housing Estate in Igando, Badagry Housing Estate, Prince Abiodun Ogunleye Housing Estate in Igbogbo, and Babatunde Olushola Benson Housing Estate in Ibeshe, additional affordable apartments have been built and delivered.
Phoenix Apartments in Ilupeju, Lagos HOMS in Magodo and Omole, Lagos HOMS in Lekki Phase 1, Babatunde Raji Fashola HOMS in Iponri Estate, Sunnyville Apartments in Ogba, and Courtland Villas in Igbokushu, Ikate Elegushi are the other housing developments. Additionally, the Greater Lagos LBIC Apartments, a joint venture between RPDC and Lagos Building Investment PLC (LBIC), were recently put into service by the Lagos State Government.
