After “The Wendy Williams Show” appeared to have been completely removed from the internet, Sherri Shepherd is more than prepared to take over daytime television.
The 55-year-old television personality collaborated with Ford last weekend in New Orleans, Louisiana, for the Essence Festival of Culture. She spoke candidly with People during the event about her upcoming daytime talk show.
“This is what I’ve always wanted to do. My motivation to make people feel good has always been to make them laugh, Shepherd told the outlet in a report that was published on Thursday.
She claims that while she was filling in for Williams, who skipped the entire final season of her talk show due to health and personal reasons, she developed an interest in hosting a daytime program.
She will be showcasing a new side of herself to the audience and viewers at home, Shepherd said when asked how her self-titled show differs from “The Wendy Williams Show.”
In “Wendy,” she said, “I did it within her format and I guess the viewers liked it because I love pop culture, but I like to find the lightness and humor of a hot topic story.”
It literally will be everything I haven’t been able to display, the author of “Permission Slips” continued. Only brief excerpts of what I do are shown to the public when I appear as a guest on a talk show or when I appear on “The View.”
Through her talk show, Shepherd hopes to provide her audience with a distraction from their persistent thoughts. She went on to say that she is more interested in emulating what Ellen DeGeneres did for daytime television than in trying to fill the void left by “The Wendy Williams Show.”
“Ellen is gone, and I adore Kelly Clarkson because she exudes authenticity naturally, but standup comedians are often underappreciated, which is where we come in. We create magic where there is none, and I truly believe that no one else is capable of doing so, but I’m here and that’s what I’m bringing, she said.
Shepherd established a reputation for herself over the years through her work as a comedian, actress, author, and co-host. But with the launch of her talk show “Sherri” in September, she is now prepared to take on a significant challenge.
The news comes just two weeks after “The Wendy Williams Show’s” official website and social media accounts were taken down from the internet.
Williams and Debmar-Mercury, the former producer and distributor of the show, have not commented on the site’s and its social media pages in the open.
