A number of dog treats made by Stormberg Foods have been recalled due to possible Salmonella contamination, endangering both the pets who ate the tainted treats and the people who handled them.
The company’s Beg & Barker Chicken Breast Strips Dog Treats, Billo’s Best Friend Chicken Breast Strips Dog Treats, and Green Coast Pets Chicken Crisps Dog Treats are among the dog treats that are impacted (UPC 8 50025 54628 7, 8 50025 54611 9, and 50025 54612, respectively) (UPC 8 50025 54610 2).
From June 8 to June 22, 2022, the dog treats were distributed to retailers and online throughout the country. They have an expiration date of June 2, 2023 to June 23, 2023 and were packaged in branded plastic bags.
The North Carolina Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services allegedly informed Stormberg Foods on July 6 that a sample of one of its dog treat products had tested positive for Salmonella.
Along with the NCDA & CS, Stormberg stated that it is continuing its investigation into the cause of the Salmonella contamination. The company has not received any health-related complaints as a result of the recalled dog treats.
Salmonella can affect both humans and animals that have handled contaminated products, particularly if they don’t thoroughly wash their hands or exposed surfaces.
Humans who have contracted salmonella can experience fever, nausea, vomiting, bloody or diarrheal diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and nausea. Rarely, it may cause symptoms of the urinary tract, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, or eyes that are irritated.
Salmonella exposure can cause pets to exhibit symptoms like lethargy, bloody or regular diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. They might also feel sick, have a fever, and have stomach pain.
Customers with sick pets or those who have purchased the recalled dog treats should email the company right away at [email protected] with the product information for instructions on disposal or return. The customer service department at Stormberg Foods can also be contacted with inquiries at 919-947-6011, Monday through Friday from 3 a.m. to 9 p.m. ET.
Consumers should speak with their doctor for treatment if symptoms of the Salmonella illness appear after consuming the recalled dog treats. Animals with infections should visit a vet.
