The fact that something is on sale during Prime Day does not guarantee that it is the best offer available anywhere or even for the entire year.
On its own products, such as the Kindle, Fire TV streamer, and private-label clothing, Amazon will undoubtedly provide the best prices. One early deal includes up to 55% off the second-generation Echo Show, Kindle Paperwhite, and Eero Mesh Wi-Fi routers, and the e-commerce giant is already promoting a 24-inch Fire TV for only $90, which is less than half the retail price.
Remember that some items will eventually be reduced in price. Around Labor Day, prices for mattresses and outdoor furniture are likely to be lower; Black Friday and Cyber Monday see the biggest discounts on toys; and Super Bowl Sunday typically marks the lowest price point for TVs.
Even Amazon is planning a second sales event for the fall, looking beyond its own Prime Day.
Competition from sales events is raising the stakes
Other deals aren’t just available on Amazon. As in previous years, competing deals events are being held by retailers like Walmart, Target, and Best Buy to coincide with Amazon Prime Day 2022.
This time, Target’s 72-hour “Deal Days” begin on July 11—one day before Prime Day—and continue for longer. Target will also match certain Prime Day prices and give RedCard holders an additional 5 percent off.
They get a little bit more competitive every year, according to Burrow.
According to him, Walmart will offer comparable bargains on household appliances, vacuums, and Nintendo Switch accessories, and Best Buy will compete on electronics and Apple products.
According to Kristen Gall, a retail and shopping expert for Rakuten, other retailers like Bed, Bath & Beyond, Kohl’s, Overstock, Samsung, and Saks Fifth Avenue will also offer significant markdowns.
How to ensure that you’re receiving the best offers
Start crunching the numbers right away to find the overall best deals, suggested Kristin McGrath, a retail expert at RetailMeNot.
Price trackers make it simple to keep track of how good a deal actually is, especially for expensive items.

To track price changes and receive price-drop alerts, McGrath advises using a browser extension like Camelcamelcamel or Keepa. Price trackers, particularly for expensive items, “are the simplest way to monitor just how good a deal really is,” she said.
According to Rakuten’s Gall, you can even stack deals at some retailers by using a promo code or digital coupon and then paying with a rewards credit card for additional savings.
